Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  1. How long does it take to get to the mouth of the river?
We are 6 miles from the Mouth of the North Arm.  The average boat takes 20-25 minutes to get to the mouth.
  2. Do you have short-term Covered Moorage?
We do allow short-term covered moorage based on availability.  Call for reservations.
  3. Is there a problem with logs on the River?
There aren't as many logs on the river as there used to be.  Lumber companies boom their logs in bundles now, which dramatically reduces the amount of loose logs.  The remaining loose logs are picked up by licensed log salvagers.
  4. How strong is the current, and can I navigate in it?
The strongest strength of the current on the river is approximately 4 knots (this is on a maximum ebb tide - most of the time the current is no where near as strong).  ANYBODY can navigate their vessel in current with a little practice.  Always remember to keep the bow pointed into the current!  We are more than happy to provide local knowledge to help you deal with the current.
  5. Why is fuel sometimes more expensive for boats than it is on the street?
For starters, we do not offer the cheaper 'regular' 87 octane gas which you see on the street.  We sell 'Marked Mid-Grade' (89 octane).  Marine engines work under a higher load (comparable to a car driving up hill all day) and thus require a more expensive, higher octane gasoline.  There is no road tax on marked fuel, however, it is still subject to provincial and federal excise tax, as well as GST (which is applied on top of that).
  6. How much is the average power bill?
We invoice hydro on a quarterly basis.  Since we use meters, everyone's usage is different, and depends solely on how much power you consume.  A rough estimate of a monthly average (spanned over 12 months) would be $10/month.
  7. Do you shut your water off in the Winter time?
We shut our water off when the temperature is forecast to be below freezing.  Because we live in a fairly warm climate, the water is not shut off for very long in the Winter.
  8. Can I have TWO parking passes?
The quick answer is no.  In order to reserve enough spaces for everyone, we must limit the number of parking passes per slip to one.  There is guest parking adjacent to the marina - we will provide directions upon request.
  9. Is there any theft at the marina?
Due to our locked gates, security cameras, and security boat, we are able to keep theft down to a minimum and rare event.  Persons which are not recognized by marina staff will be questioned.  We do however, recommend that you take precautions to prevent theft.
    • Disconnect all electronics and lock up in the boat or take them home.
    • Do not leave keys on the boat.
    • Install an alarm system - noise will deter thieves and attract attention from security and  other boaters.
    • Install motor locks on all outboard motors (#1 item for thieves).
    • Inform the marina office if any outside (non-Galleon Marine) mechanics will be working on your boat.
    • Mark boat name (and home-port marina) on all valuable items (especially on dinghy). Record all serial numbers of valuable items (and take pictures).
    • NEVER allow strangers into the marina. If someone is 'hanging' around the gate and asks you to allow them in, ask them to call the marina office.
  10. Can I mount bumpers on the dock?
Yes, however they must be approved by marina staff.  The easiest thing to do is to purchase dock wheels and dock edge bumpers from us, as we will provide installation and hardware for free.
  11. Do you allow live-aboards?
No, we no longer accept live-aboard applications.
  12. Do you have space for sailboats?
Because of the new Fixed Span Airport Connector Bridge, the minimum clearance is 10 meters at High High Water (approximately 15 meters at low water), the largest sailboat which we can accept is 30'.
